Advent Post 2018

Hello Dear Reader,

So happy you could join me today for day 16 on Jo's Advent Calendar. You can see all the calendar over at Jo's HERE, but don't forget to come back and comment here, tee hee!

While writing I'd just like to say a very warm "Welcome" to any new "Followers" and would just mention that if you are a "new to me" blogger I won't know who you are unless you leave me a comment to say hello, as, unfortunately all I will know about you from the Follower badge is the blogs you follow.

But, back to the Advent Calendar!

Jo has asked us all to show some Christmas stitching and to talk about a favourite Christmas song. This is Mrs Christmas and some of you may remember I mentioned her before! This was a kit from CrossStitcher which I stitched in record time. Well, I thought so, but I'm not sure my photo reached the magazine, coz I didn't win! But, anyway, I have two Christmas finishes to show you .....

Kit from Cross Stitcher 338

I actually liked her better before I put her together ..... still she is fully finished off!

The Flashing Scissors

And this was the free sample I sent for from the same magazine .....

Theflashingscissors.blogspot.co.uk

Stitched using DMC's new Etoile. Sorry to sound like an advert ..... of course, as usual, I am not being paid to mention these I just like them a lot!

I said I'd let you know how I got on stitching this thread (as it looked like it would be very catchy)

I used shorter threads than usual (11" long, approx.) and a teeny piece of paper to thread the needle, so the thread didn't catch there either, and can report this method worked very well!

I used the pattern I received with the sample of thread, and I really loved stitching it. Once I started it worked up very easily.

The Flashing Scissors

To finish today, I remember, as a child at school,  I used to enjoy singing along with the the song Ding Dong Merrily on high and I found a version HERE but one of my favourite Christmas pop songs was John Lennon’s “So this is Christmas” which you can hear HERE .

Whoops, afraid time got away from me again and this is rather a hurried post, apologies for that!

I hope to be back soon with a Gifted Gorgeousness post ..... I have a couple of other finishes to share.

How are you doing ..... any Christmas finishes, are you even ready for Christmas?

Wishing you all a Very Happy Christmas!

Hugs,
Barbara xxx

Mrs Christmas is a darling ornament and how perfect you finished her! Love the free chart and that new DMC thread is perfect for Christmas stitching. Well done!! Nope, not close to being ready for Christmas and I love that John Lennon version.

Mrs Christmas looks very different before and after being turned into an ornament, especially the hair. I think she is charming, but I like the other cross stitch ornament even more. Thank you for the thread report.
Wishing you the very best of Christmases, too.

I love your Mrs. Christmas - she's indeed a treasure! I can see the sparkle in the DMC thread too - so perfect for making Christmas ornaments! My absolute favourite song is a relatively new one - Faith Hill's 'A Baby Changes Everything'. It makes me cry every single time I hear it (good tears, I might add!).

I have made a couple of those cone ornaments and shared them on my blog in the past. My kit also form a mag came with a most feeble needle that bent right out of shape. Appreciate the review on the new thread, I have been tempted but as I still have not used much from the light effects set I let my self be tempted by previously I shall wait a little more I think. All planned for a finish for gifts sewing is done (unless I suddenly think to try and do something additional, it has been known to happen. Yet still not feeling prepared. I hope by the time my day for the advent rolls up I will be able to say I am all set.

I love both the Christmas finishes. I’m always attracted towards non framed finishes. Merry Christmas.

You finished Mrs C beautifully! And your second ornament looks lovely too.
You can't go wrong with John Lennon's Christmas!

Thanks for taking part in the Advent Calendar Blog Hop this year. I like both versions of Mrs Christmas, the flat one looks like she has a big beehive hairdo under that hat!

Two more great songs. Ding Dong Merrily is a schoolchild's favourite to be sung with enthusiasm.

Nice to know the Etoile stitches up nicely, a little sparkle is always nice to add to Christmas ornies.

I love Mrs Christmas and your deer cross stitch. I also enjoyed the music. And no. Not nearly ready for Christmas - must start sooner next year... :D

Your Mrs Christmas cross stitch is beautiful. She looks ever so lovely all stitched up. The little bauble cross stitch is pretty as well. I remember singing Ding Dong Merrily on High.....I love Christmas Carols. I am afraid that I am not really prepared for Christmas, oh well, not to worry, I suppose it will all come together before the big day. =)

I think Mrs. Claus turned out beautifully!! It's always fun to make up those free kits...and they always look better than the picture!! Your other ornament is lovely too, I can see the sparkles in the thread. I struggle with metallic threads, so my hat is off to you for making it look wonderful! You've chosen a wonderful Christmas song! Thanks for sharing, and I hope you and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas!

Lovely stitching. I agree with you, Mrs Christmas does seem to look better unfinished, but she still came out great!
I love John Lennon, this is one of my favourite Christmas songs as well.

Lovely post Barbara, love Mrs Christmas and the bright happy colours and also the pattern stitched with the new Etoile thread. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

I think 3D stitches are so neat! But I am also learning they're quite fiddly to put together, my goodness. I like your Mrs. Christmas! I wonder about the new Etoile floss. I haven't seen it available in stores here yet, but it may be like the new colors and only in a particular chain... That I don't often get to! Sparkly things are always awesome though.

Your songs are both great! I'm a bit more familiar with the John Lennon one though!

Really lovely embroideries! I don’t know the threading-a-needle-with-paper method though!
