This is my first link up to the Smalls SAL which is being run by Mary of Mary's Threads this year ..... sign up page is HERE.
I recently realised most of my stitching is small, don't know why I hadn't thought of linking to the SAL before! Of course this could be included in Gifted Gorgeousness too, but I couldn't wait to show you all!
So, without further ado, here is my "Small" finish for this month:
A combination of vintage Liberty and modern fabrics (Front) |
This is the pincushion I made for Bethan (no blog) in Bea's Pincushion Swap, and as I now know it has arrived at its destination I can show you without spoiling her surprise.
For those who don't quilt the front pattern is a "Friendship Star" and I think the back would be a four block, and anyone who does quilt do let me know if I have this wrong! I didn't have any suitable buttons so I used a quilting knot to finish (otherwise known as a Surgeon's Knot). You learn something new every day ..... well I do anyway!
Back, and a mini thread catcher I included with the pincushion |
As most of you will know my sewing machine died recently, in fact just when I wanted to make this pincushion, so it was hand stitched. I really enjoyed making it, and luckily Patty at Elm Street Quilts and Kristin of Simple Handmade Everyday had been showing us how to hand stitch quilts ready for their SAL (which started on Monday 21 January, 2019). Unfortunately I haven't had time to start cutting any fabric for this yet, but I will be having a go! There are prizes too, you can see details on both their blogs.
However, I digress ..... what I was really leading up to say was that I now have a super dooper new sewing machine at last! Unfortunately I am a little nervous of using it, but I have, and so far I am happy! It has some great features that my ancient sewing machine never had ..... its own needle threader, feed dogs that drop down, inbuilt scissors, super lights and a knee lifter, oh, and a table extension, oh, and most important of all it has 100 stitches! I never thought I'd be buying a machine like it, but it's quite exciting now I have.
I hope you will pop over to Mary's Threads to see what others have stitched, there's some beautiful work to be seen!
Must dash now ..... Happy Stitching All!
Hugs,
Barbara xxx

Cute pin cushion! Your hand stitching looks very nice.
Barbara, I absolutely love your new pin cushion that you made for the swap. And to think you hand stitched the whole thing. It is truly beautiful. I love the fabric choices too and the quilting designs. Wonderful work. RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
Your pin cushion is beautiful, Barbara. Hand stitched....really?? You have done a fabulous job. Your new sewing machine sounds as if it has all the bells and whistles. Enjoy playing with it.
Very beautiful pin cushion.
Wonderful pincushion you made! I love the colours. I am impressed with the hand-stitching! I've seen a Japanese quilter demo it and couldn't believe my eyes how quickly she could piece! Yay for the new machine with all the bells and whistles. :-)
Your pincushion looks great. I'm sure it was very well received. I will check out the small sal. And I'm glad you have a new sewing machine. That's a very exciting start to the year :)
Oh Barbara, it's beautiful and I love how it's totally hand made! I hope Bethan loves it, who wouldn't?!
I'm so glad you found a sewing machine you like, have fun with it.
Lucky lady who received this beautiful quilted cushion, its stunning Barbara. Well done on the hand quilting.
Great finish Barbara! I love the pincushion you made and I am sure that the recipient loved it as well because it looks awesome!
Cute pin cushion! I love the colors. I'd love to do some little quilting things like that as bigger things intimidate me.
Great small pincushion!
Lovely pincushion.
Enjoy your new sewing machine.
Lovely work Barbara, lucky girl with a new machine, I'm sure you'll soon be whizzing away on it 🙂
What a lovely pincushion Barbara! I am sure Bethan is delighted with it!! I hope you have a lot of fun with your new sewing machine, I am sure you will!! Have a lovely week! Christine xx

Lovely pincushion Barbara, pretty fabrics and truly handmade. Hope you enjoy your new machine - how exciting.
That's REALLY pretty! What gorgeous fabrics! Thanks for joining the SAL and sharing your work!
I'm sure Bethan was thrilled with her new pincushion - I love the sweet prints you used. And a new sewing machine - how exciting! What did you get??? Curious mind wants to know because said curious mind is still ever hopeful for a lottery win so she can deep six the boat anchor she did end up buying in favour of something a whole lot better.
Very nice pincushion :)
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Great little pincushion, I am sure your partner loved it.
I think the handstitching is an awesome touch even if it was only because your old sewing machine gave up the ghost at an inconvenient time! I really like the pretty floral fabrics, especially the darker bluish one. Anyone who sews surely can do up stitches in humans too, right? :D
Gorgeous pincushion and thread catcher, I'm sure they were well loved!
hi Barb beautiful pin cushion you are very clever my friend xx
