Izzy Gets a Dress / A Sweet Little Breakfast Guest

Hello Dear Readers

I am sorry I haven't visited and commented on as many blogs as I would have liked to recently, but unfortunately our window replacement is not progressing anywhere near as quickly as it should, due to a few hiccups that I won't bore you with.

IZZY GETS A DRESS

I have started making a dress for Izzy, which will be completely hand stitched, and so today I am linking to Super Mom - No Cape.  Thank you Sue, for hosting this party.

Once again I have looked  to Runo's amazing blog: Nuno Life, for ideas for Izzy's dress.

introduced Runo's blog on a previous post with reference to making Izzy's eyes, but although I used Runo's shape for the eyes I "borrowed" Pickled Okra's idea for embroidering the pupils and irises. (Go here to see how I made Izzy's hair.)

Runo's dress pattern was a good place to start. Runo doesn't give measurements (other than seam allowance) you estimate the size for your own doll.

I started by placing my doll on a sheet of paper, and drew, with a pencil, around the shape of the doll onto the paper. I added approximately 0.25" for seams.  I then extended the arms to form sleeves (black outline).

Drawing round Izzy to make the pattern

Pattern preparation
The pencil lines on the "Front" are the lines I drew around Izzy
I traced the front onto tracing paper, folded it in half and drew round that to make the "Back" and added 0.5" for the "interfacing" on the back seam.

Time to stitch
Ready to start stitching the bodice.

 In the order Runo suggested:

  1. pin front and back pieces at shoulder, and stitch,
  2. seam under arm,
  3. gather skirt and stitch top onto skirt,
  4. fold sleeve cuffs, and stitch,
  5. fold neck edge under, and stitch,
  6. sew gathered lace to neckline,
  7. attach snaps.

A SWEET LITTLE BREAKFAST GUEST

We had just sat down to eat breakfast on our terrace, when hubby suddenly noticed this cute little guy dozing in the sun next to him.

Breakfast guest

Sweet guy!

Sunbathing!

Sunbathing 2!

Sweet guest!

He must have been there about 5 or 10 minutes, I think he thought we should go away and leave him to the sunny spot he had found!

**********

Today we have been more than a little worried, as it has been raining quite heavily here, and we discovered our windows are not as waterproof as they should be yet.

After two frantic telephone calls from my husband, plus emails with photographs, they have now been sealed more thoroughly this afternoon, and a planned date has now been given to complete the work fully.

**********

I will show a little more of my cross stitch next time, as it hasn't grown very much more at the moment.

Have a lovely week everyone, and don't forget to pop over and have a look at the other blogs linking to Super Mom - No Cape.

I really do hope your windows are soon done and are working properly. It's been a very long time in the doing, that's for sure. Love the wee little bird - wonder if he/she had flown into a window and was recuperating. I think it would have quickly flown away with you being that close.

Thank you Alex, we had lots of rain too, and they aren't finished, yet! Had hoped the guy had stopped the ingress of rain yesterday, but I have just looked and the plaster is still wet on the inside of the window.

Thank you for visiting, Charlie. Hope you have a great week too!

Thank you for your kind comments, Mary Anne. We hoped the bird hadn't flown into the window, there were no marks on the windows. Hope you have a great week.

Little Izzy is adorable. And thank you for the pattern tutorial. I have plans to make a cat doll and your blog has inspired me. We received some wonderful rain today in hot, dry California. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you Amy. Hopefully they will be finished next week, it's just a shame it's raining now!

Thanks Deanna. I hope you get some rain soon!

Thank you, Pat. I'm so happy to have inspired you. I'm glad, too, that you have had some much needed rain. I've been reading on some blogs about fires out there - the weather is never just what we need is it?

Very pretty dress you're making for Izzy! I'm sure she will love it. Your guest was very patient; I had one this morning who only stayed a few seconds. I'm sorry you had trouble with your windows; I hope nothing was water damaged.

Much sympathy on the windows. We've been there!

Hi Kate, Thank you for your comment. We didn't have any serious water damage, thank you, and the windows are still to be finished. I'm afraid Izzy is waiting for her dress, too, as I've been side tracked lately by my Cocoa Sampler!

Thank you for your comment, Kate. The window saga has been really quite upsetting. However, I have been distracted by reading your blog and admiring your quilting.

I hate it when you find something is leaking. Water can cause so much damage.
